McGinnis Lochridge announced today the growth of the firm’s International Trade and Transactions Practice Group with the addition of Jamie Joiner and Lindsey Roskopf, one of the state’s leading attorney teams focusing on international trade law, including export controls, sanctions, and customs matters. Jamie and Lindsey, who join as Special Counsel and Associate respectively, will practice with paralegal Emma Sandhop and administrative support staff in the firm’s Houston office.

Jamie’s international trade practice focuses on representing U.S. and foreign clients in matters relating to international trade compliance and enforcement, including export controls, economic and trade sanctions, import and customs law, anti-boycott restrictions, and requirements related to free trade agreements. Roskopf, a seasoned trade compliance attorney, was an auditor at a Big Four accounting firm prior to law school, further adding to the team’s strengths in assisting clients with internal trade compliance audits, governmental investigations, and voluntary disclosures.

“At a time when international trade is at the forefront of the economic conversation, we are pleased to have the expertise that Jamie and Lindsey bring to our International Trade practice,” said McGinnis Lochridge Managing Partner Doug Dodds. “The breadth of their experience will be of significant value to our U.S. and foreign clients on cross-border compliance and commercial matters.”

Attorneys in the McGinnis Lochridge International Trade and Transactions practice have represented a wide variety of U.S. and foreign clients, from Fortune 100 multinationals to start-up technology companies, on a broad range of international commercial matters, including cross-border investments, global technology licensing, international anti-bribery compliance, global supply chain integrity, and various transactions in more than 75 countries.

“Jamie’s and Lindsey's expertise representing clients before the various U.S. trade regulatory agencies significantly strengthens our ability to help our clients navigate the increasingly complex array of legal obligations they face when trading internationally,” said Martin Lutz, who chairs the International Trade and Transactions Practice Group.

Jamie will also be focusing on further developing the group’s practice in the area of supply chain integrity. “Clients are increasingly held responsible when their foreign subsidiaries or suppliers fail to meet appropriate legal standards, particularly in the areas of labor regulation,” said Lutz. “We want our international practice to be at the very forefront of assisting clients in meeting their obligations in this area, and Jamie is going to be taking the lead on that effort.” The firm will support Jamie in a year-long international research project to study ways the firm’s clients can better manage their supply chain to ensure that international standards are met. Jamie will be embarking on the project later in 2019.

Jamie earned her J.D. from Louisiana State University Law Center, and her B.A. from Westminster College. She is admitted to the Bars of the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of International Trade. She also holds a U.S. customs broker license, which she received in 2005.

Lindsey received her J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center. She earned a B.B.A. and a Masters in Professional Accounting simultaneously from the University of Texas at Austin.
